Electrolyte Elixir with Pine Pollen

DIY Electrolyte Elixir with Pine Pollen

Electrolytes have been getting a ton of well-deserved attention recently, beckoning us to move away from associations of neon-colored sports drinks or childhood flu memories and reimagine just how beneficial these additions can be in our current day-to-day. After all, electrolytes are essential minerals that are fundamental to the body’s optimal functioning, including for hydration, pH balance, blood pressure regulation, muscle contractions, and even overall nervous system function. In fact, they’re so essential that electrolytes are even responsible for the constant impulses in our bodies so that our hearts can beat, our lungs can breathe, and our brains can learn.

Minerals are some of the most important nutrients to supplement, as our bodies do not produce them internally. Although it has become almost impossible to obtain sufficient minerals from the food we eat and water we drink due to widespread soil depletion and contamination, we do believe that some of the most potent options come from bioavailable sources of food-as-medicine, like Pine Pollen or Pearl. Our homemade Electrolyte Elixir features all of the so-called most important electrolytes, which are: sodium chloride, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and phosphorous. We get sodium chloride from the salt, plus all the rest and so much more from the Pine Pollen—rich in calcium, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, molybdenum, phosphorous, potassium, selenium, silicon, sodium, and zinc. Lime juice, like lemon juice, is also a great source of potassium, magnesium, and calcium.

Pine Pollen is so nutrient-dense and has many other benefits; this blend is deeply replenishing, supports stable energy, aids in recovery from stress-induced burnout, can support cognitive function, helps regulates blood pressure, and can minimize a sense of stress. The maple syrup also serves a very important function, as sugar helps the minerals be more quickly absorbed into the bloodstream so that you can feel the benefits almost immediately.

Ingredients:
2-3 mint leaves
Juice of ½ a lime
½ inch knob of turmeric, grated
Pinch of sea salt
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp Pine Pollen

Muddle all of these ingredients together with a pestle, then add ¼ cup of ice and top all the way to the top of your glass with sparkling water. Enjoy with a straw!
