Ovulation-Supporting Tonic Herbs

Ovulation-Supporting Tonic Herbs

Akin to the peak of a woman’s menstrual cycle, ovulation is the phase when estrogen surges, fertility heightens, energy explodes, and libido amplifies. The rise of Yang hormones, namely luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone, cause the release of an egg that must undergo quite a journey from the ovaries to the fallopian tube and down to the uterus. The smooth completion of this journey, whether ultimately resulting in pregnancy through fertilization or not, requires warmth and the smooth flow of Qi. Of course, Chinese herbs can be incredibly supportive.

In TCM, it’s considered important to tonify Qi and nourish Kidney Yang in order to successfully transition from the ovulatory phase to the luteal phase. Incorporate any of the following herbs that promote warmth, fertility, and pleasure – especially during and leading up to ovulation.

Rhodiola – A powerful Qi tonic, it’s also stress-reducing, nourishing to the adrenals, and has a regulatory effect on cortisol, thus playing an important role in promoting overall hormonal balance and supporting fertility. Specifically shown to help restore ovulation in women experiencing amenhorrea, Rhodiola can play an important role in overall reproductive health.

Cordyceps – An incredibly invigorating Yang tonic that nourishes both Yin Jing and Yang Jing, it’s a unique and well-balanced ally for cultivating harmony in the Kidneys – a primary determinant of fertility. Its propensity for maximizing energy production and promoting its unobstructed flow further explain why it’s commonly indicated for those experiencing sexual malaise.

Warrior – Although formulated primarily for men’s health, this blend greatly supports the ovulatory phase for women, too. By tonifying Yang, nourishing Jing, increasing energy, and stoking libido, Warrior can promote fertility – considered a vital sign in TCM, indicating the body as a whole is functioning optimally enough to support the creation of new life.

Pine Pollen – A nutritional and medicinal powerhouse with a long history of use as a fertility aid and sexual tonic. Warming and energizing, it’s a Yang herb that likewise tonifies Jing, enhancing optimal Kidney function. It also contains androgens – reproductive and growth hormones that support fertility, libido, mood, and energy. It’s also rich in bioavailable Zinc and Selenium, two of the most important nutrients for healthy libido.

Cinnamon and Ginger are Yang herbs that are warming and circulation-promoting, enhancing the free flow of Qi. When combined with Jing tonics like Cordyceps and Deer Antler Velvet (contained in Warrior), they’re known to stimulate fiery sexual energy.
