Performance Recovery Golden Milk Tonic - rootandbones

Performance Recovery Golden Milk Tonic

Physical exertion is a normal and healthy part of life, whether it’s work-related or recreational, but it can feel like the costs outweigh the benefits when we are left with soreness, inflammation, and even injury. The ingredients in this tonic synergize masterfully to help speed up recovery time, provide structural support, encourage a healthy inflammatory response, and promote regeneration on the deepest levels. Suitable for daily support in strength-building, try it before or after your workout regimen, or even for more extreme instances of recovery from overexertion.

The Recipe:

1-2 tsp Turmeric powder

½ tsp Eucommia Bark

½ tsp Deer Antler Velvet

1 tbsp Maple syrup

¼ tsp Cinnamon

Pinch of Black Pepper

1-1.5 cups Milk of choice

Add all of the powders, spices and maple syrup to half a cup of hot water or warmed milk and integrate using a milk frother / blender. Then add 1 cup of warmed milk and enjoy! If you want to add protein, our Marine Collagen is a great option that further supports remineralization, bone health, and also offers additional connective tissue support.

Turmeric has become one of the most popular herbs in modern times, which is understandable as the Western world looks for assistance in dealing with chronic inflammation that, at the very least, accompanies many illnesses. However, a little bit of acute inflammation is not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to our body’s natural processes of recovery; it can even support muscle growth. The issue arises when there is repetitive physical trauma that constantly causes an inflammatory response, paired with the damaging release of free radicals. Turmeric interrupts this process with its inflammation-taming properties as well as its rich stores of antioxidants, tending to the free radicals and promoting a balanced inflammatory response.

Eucommia is a medicinal tree bark mentioned in ancient TCM texts primarily for treating pain in the lower back and knees. Considered safe for daily use, this well-balanced tonic herb has traditionally also been employed to treat problems in the joints, including pain, stiffness, dislocation, swelling, and weakness. These structural benefits, which even extend to aid in the mending of broken bone and torn tissue, are not the only reason Eucommia is included in this recipe; like turmeric, it also has anti-inflammatory properties that can support muscle recovery and pain relief.

Deer Antler Velvet is revered by athletes due to its host of reparative factors. It helps support muscular strength, cartilage regeneration, and joint function. A highly valued Yang tonic in Chinese culture, it can improve fatigue, help tame inflammation, minimize oxidative stress, support immunity, and deeply promotes a robust constitution, thanks to being rich in minerals, collagen, and amino acids. Deer antler velvet is also a source of growth factor, a naturally occurring substance capable of stimulating cell proliferation, wound healing, and sometimes cellular differentiation. Because it contains hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that’s produced in the human body, it is an amazing ally for maintaining skin elasticity and strengthening connective tissue. This one is truly a game-changer when it comes to both performance and recovery!
