He Shou Wu and Black Sesame Seeds are two potent blood and yin tonics in Chinese Medicine.
Sesame contains magnesium, calcium, copper and zinc. He Shou Wu also contains zinc and iron. Consuming these trace minerals helps boost immune system, prevent bone density loss and reduces inflammation. In addition, both of these items can help promote melanocyte activity to produce melanin, the pigment responsible for hair and skin color.
Since summer time is considered a 'yang' time of year, its extra important to support your yin. When people are yin deficient, this shows up as dryness in the hair and skin, insomnia, night sweats, anxiety, tinnitus, dry mouth and flushing. Supporting your yin now will present as a better transition into fall and winter.
